Best Women’s Golf Clubs – for Beginners and Intermediate Players

When it comes to the sexes, there is no question that women have much different needs than men. This holds true in all aspects of life, and it is especially true in the realm of sports products. Golf is no different.

Many manufacturers are responding to the demand for fitted golf products for women, as this beautiful game continues to grow. I play golf with my mum and my sister, both of which make the most of these relatively new tweaks, to make the game as enjoyable as possible.

If you are looking for the best women’s golf clubs for your game, it’s essential that your equipment suits your swing, playing style, and skill level. We have selected and reviewed 5 women’s golf club sets and attached links below to where you can find them. From the sets reviewed, we found that the STRATA Women’s Golf Packaged Set is one of the best sets of women’s golf clubs for the money. If you have a few extra dollars to spend then be sure to consider the Callaway Solaire Set. Made by a recognized brand this really is a premium package set of golf clubs for women golfers!

Here’s list of all 5 products we reviewed,

The rhyme and reason behind our selection will be discussed below. Remember to keep an open mind because each golfers’ individual needs are different, including your own. No matter where in your golf journey you are right now. So please take note of the features, the advantages and benefits of each set and see if they match your needs.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty, let us begin with a few fundamentals that you should keep in mind.

What makes a basic golf set?

The official rules of the USGA state that all golfers are limited to 14 clubs for a round of golf. Although this might seem restrictive, this is good news because it allows the golfer to select the clubs they need. 14 golf clubs are more than enough for any golfer, of any ability.

Like men, women will need a basic set of golf clubs. In general, the basic golf set will consist of a putter, two wedges, 4 or 5 irons, 1 or 2 hybrids and three woods.

Most sets also come with the bag as standard and a few other accessories that are a nice touch, including balls, tees and occasionally gloves.

Regarding the clubs, the woods will consist of the five wood, the three wood, and the driver.

Personally, I would leave the 3 wood at home. The reason for this is that 3 wood only has 15 degrees of loft, which means you will need a lot more swing speed to get the ball in the air. I would consider swapping it for a 7 wood if you can. The 5 wood will be 18 or 21 degrees, which means it has more loft than the 3 wood so it will be easier to get the ball in the air. The 7 wood is more lofted again and can be a valuable tool within women’s golf. Many of the leading golfers on the LPGA (Ladies Pro Tour) and the LET (Ladies European Tour) do exactly that and carry the 7 wood in the bag.

When it comes to the irons in a traditional women’s golf set, it would include a 9 iron, 8 iron, 7, 6 and possibly a 5 iron. These numbers are essentially for helping you understand how much distance and height each iron will travel.

In short, the lower the number, the further the ball will travel, at a lower height.

For example, the 6 iron will travel further than a 9 iron and at a lower height. This is because the 6 iron has less loft on the club than a 9 iron. The advantage of having several different irons is that you can select the club you need for the distance of shot that you require.

The hybrids are a go-between, and perform like a wood and an iron, they even look like a bit of both! They offer the capability of an iron with the ease of striking a wood.

Furthermore, hybrids can be useful clubs to use around the green. When you are chipping from just off the green and you don’t have anything to go over other than fairway or fringe. The advantage of using a hybrid instead of a wedge or iron to chip the ball is you are less likely to strike the ball poorly. So it’s easier to be more consistent.

Finally, the set often includes a sand wedge, pitching wedge and a putter. From experience, I would always try the putter and ensure you are happy with the performance of it. This is the club you will use the most when you are playing golf, so selecting a putter that you like the feel, weight, and design of is important. However, I appreciate the performance of the putter won’t be the primary factor when deciding the best set of women’s golf clubs to buy, it will be a decision based on the whole set in its entirety.

Actual differences between men’s and ladies’ golf clubs

Even though all golf clubs have a similar design, there are some notable differences between men’s and women’s golf clubs. First of all, in a standard set, ladies’ golf clubs will be shorter, lighter, and more flexible. Also, the driver and woods will have more loft than that of its male counterparts.

Part of the reason for these differences is due to Women golfers (generally speaking) being of a shorter build and having slower swing speed than male golfers (please don’t hate me, just going by the data!).

Loft

The drivers in a female set of clubs will be somewhat different, with 12 degrees of loft versus the usual 9-to-10 degrees of loft in the male drivers. The advantage of this added loft is your shot will naturally create more spin on the ball and will subsequently have a higher flight in the air.

Weight

Moreover, the drivers for the women will be lighter. This will allow you to swing the driver at a faster speed. The benefit is greater distance, a higher trajectory, and in honesty, a lot more fun. The woods on a female set of clubs will be different as well, usually possessing greater lofts, some sets come with a 7 wood, 9 wood and I have even seen an 11 wood!

Flex/ Shafts

The irons in a female golf club usually consist of a softer flex and a slightly heavier club head. This softer flex allows the club to perform better when swung at a slower swing speed. Additionally, ladies’ clubs will have graphite shafts, whereas the men will have clubs made of steel. The benefits of the graphite shafts are that they are lighter. This means the golfer can swing the golf clubs at a faster speed and hit the ball further.

What are the best golf clubs for women beginners?

There are so many choices now when you select a set of golf clubs. Which wedges do you select? Which irons, putter, or woods? Then the components within each of these clubs are all customizable. For Women who have played the game for a little while, your requirements will differ from those who are new to the sport.

Beginners should consider purchasing a package set since it is much more cost effective. Also buying a package set means you can upgrade your clubs slowly, as your golf game improves.

Best ladies’ golf clubs reviews

You owe it to yourself to be picky

The good news is that there are many different sets of clubs that are being marketed to lady golfers. Here are our top picks:

STRATA Women’s Golf Packaged Set

A superb, cost effective way to begin our reviews. You have a choice of the 11-, 14- or 16-piece set, while purchasing this product. Say you select the 16-piece set, it will include a driver, 5-wood, 5-hybrid, irons from 6 to 9, a PW and SW, 3 headcovers and a stand bag.

Strata Women’s Golf Packaged Set also has a mallet putter that will assist you with getting incredible accuracy. It really includes everything that you need, at a great price. Furthermore, it is one of the most positively reviewed sets in the market.

It is tailored to women that are beginning to play golf or have a higher handicap. The lofts on these clubs are slightly higher than a standard set. Meaning you will find it easier to get the ball in the air. Also, the irons have a large cavity behind the clubface. The benefit of this cavity is more forgiveness in off-center hits. If you do not hit the ball out the middle of the clubface, the club won’t twist so much. So the ball will stay straighter and still fly well.

Here are some of the pros and cons of this selection:

PROS

  • Carrying is very easy because this set consists of both a lightweight bag and lightweight clubs
  • These clubs are manufactured by Callaway, who are a world-famous brand in golf clubs
  • The clubs are packaged well, with plastic wrap around the heads and bubble wrap around various parts as well
  • Clubs are well-built, comfortable, and easy to grip

CONS

  • Unfortunately, the 4 covers and the bag will count toward the 16 pieces
  • Putter has been reviewed as delicate
  • Callaway branding is missing from the bag and clubs

Alongside the clubs, this set comes with a stand bag and 3 matching head covers. What is unique about purchasing these clubs is that you have the option of “tall” or “petite”. Callaway Women’s Solaire Complete Golf Set

Another set from Callaway but this isn’t any set. Truly the mothership in women’s sets of golf clubs. The Callaway Women’s Solaire Complete Golf Set makes a perfect selection for a new golfer, through to mid-handicap level.

If you are someone that is committed to improving your game, I would consider this set. If you don’t wish to buy more clubs as you improve, we would suggest paying the extra dollars now. This is because this set of clubs will still be a good set of clubs for you as you improve.

The reason they are so good is the metal and design of the clubs. All the irons, woods and hybrids come with a metal insert in the back of the clubs. The advantage is it offers a higher launch on the golf clubs and increased forgiveness. Just in case you do not strike the ball out the middle of the clubface.

Secondly, we like that the 5 and 6 iron is replaced by hybrids. The benefit to the golfer is that longer irons are typically harder to hit. So swapping them for a hybrid brings further forgiveness, making hitting the ball well much easier.

Finally, the set comes with a quality bag that is designed to sit on your trolley or golf cart. It comes with over 10 pockets, a slot for each club in the bag and a hood in case of adverse weather conditions.

The clubs have a premium design from the driver to the putter and are designed similarly to more advanced fold clubs.

This premium putter is actually one of the putters from a set of clubs we like.  However, this is down to personal preference. Take a look at the pros and cons of this set:

PROS

  • These are very lightweight clubs
  • This design, metal and “cavity” mean these clubs are easier to strike than other sets available
  • The golf clubs have a sharp-looking design
  • They can significantly improve your iron game

CONS

  • Some individuals are reporting that the sizing on these clubs is a bit off
  • Clubs claim they are petite, but in many cases, they are actually regular size
  • Some consumers have had to take these clubs to the sporting goods store to have them cut down an inch
  • This set comes with a cart bag, but no cart/ trolly. This will have to be purchased separately.

Aspire XD1 Women’s Complete Right-Handed Golf Clubs Set

Back to the more affordable sets now and a warm welcome back to the color pink! Although, not quite as bright as the Precise M5 set.

This Aspire XD1 Women’s Complete Right-Handed Golf Clubs Set is an entry level set of ladies’ golf clubs. If you are new to the game and you want to buy a full set to see if you like it, then I would recommend these clubs.

If you are thinking of practicing a lot and starting a golf journey, I would look at the previously mentioned set, for example, the Precision M5 set.

However, it does have all the nuts and bolts that you need. This package includes a Titanium Driver (which is pretty good). A Fairway Wood, a Hybrid club set, 6-PW irons, a putter, stand bag, and 3 headcovers to protect your driver and woods. Again, like all the sets discussed today, the clubs feature graphite shafts, ensuring you have lightweight clubs that are easy to swing.

This example has its pros and cons like every other product though. Take a look at the following:

PROS

  • This brand of golf clubs is known as a great starter set
  • This set looks exactly like it does in the picture
  • Clubs are very durable; they can go through a lot of different rounds and countless visits to the driving range
  • They are an affordable set of golf clubs
  • If you are new to golf and wish to try out a new set of clubs designed for women’s golf, then this would be a good place to start

CONS

  • ALERT! You can only buy in right-handed only.
  • The quality in the clubs is not to the same standard as the Callaway clubs mentioned previously.
  • The packaging is not the best
  • Some have reported that the bag appears to be cheaply made

Believe Ladies Complete Golf Set

A good set to finish on, this set finds itself nicely positioned in-between the affordable and expensive sets we have reviewed.

The ‘Believe Ladies Complete Golf Set’ consists of a 460-cc driver. Which is known throughout the industry as the largest driver allowed. The benefit is maximum forgiveness and maximum enjoyment!

Additionally, this brand offers ladies a “Fly High” 3-wood that will help you launch shots off the tee easily. Therefore, a back-up option if you struggle with the driver.

These clubs again boast many of the advantages of other brands. The irons are a cavity design, which increases forgiveness by reducing the twisting of the club from off-center hits.

Finally, the clubs come with a lightweight flexible ladies’ shaft. Buyers have disclosed in their feedback that these are lightweight clubs. The benefit is the ability to create added swing speed and gain a few extra yards with your shots.

Like the premium Callaway Solaire set, I like that the 5 iron is replaced by a hybrid. This will be easier to strike and will give you more confidence when needing to use the 5 iron/ hybrid.

The best thing about this set is the golf bag is of the highest of quality. It comes with an ergonomic handle, which makes transporting much easier. It has many pockets for your items and clothing, and it is a genuine premium material that on its own would retail towards one third of the entire set cost!

PROS

  • The look and feel of these clubs are excellent
  • Suitable for beginners and intermediate golfers
  • These clubs will work well for short players
  • The golf bag that comes with this set of clubs is superb!

CONS

  • This brand can be hard to find at times

What to look for while buying?

Shaft Length & Flex

When purchasing a set of best lady golf clubs, be conscious of the weight of the shaft. The lighter the shaft the easier it is to generate the clubhead speed required for longer shots. Also, the flex of the shaft is important. The more flex the shaft has the more speed it will generate through impact. It also will bend “square” during the impact zone. This will stop weak shots drifting to the right and snap the clubface back to square and send the ball straighter.

Grip

Typically, ladies will have smaller hands than men. So be sure to feel the grips of the golf clubs to see if you like the feel. Also, consider the sizing and if your hands can’t grip the shot well. Your local pro could also reduce the thickness of the grips for a small price.

Bonus tipif you struggle with hitting the ball to the right, a thinner grip will help you rotate the club through impact and keep the ball straight!

Club Mix

The mix of golf clubs is important as you will want to get the most out of your bag. Ensure the set you buy as hybrids, and as previously stated the more hybrids you have the better options from 150 yards and in. Also, they are easier to hit than longer irons. Remember you have 14 clubs available, think about which ones you use and which ones you do not. See if you can replace the ones you don’t use with something that can help!

Bag Type

When buying a bag I have two rules. Decide if you are buying to carry or to sit on a trolley, as bag designs fall into those 2 categories.

Secondly, ensure the bag you buy is waterproof and that it has a rain hood as standard. I don’t know where all my readers live but 3 /4 hours on the course, the weather can change!

Brand

The brand is irrelevant when entering the market for golf clubs. I have explained the benefits of picking a brand like a Callaway, as they will work with you throughout the early stages of your career. If you don’t want that expense and investment and want to get out there, the Strata set will work just fine!

Conclusion

In all honesty, all these options are good for the lady golfer. However, we think that the STRATA Women’s Golf Packaged Set is one of the best women’s golf clubs sets for the money.

It’s not only a great option for beginners and recreational golfers but it has got everything any intermediate player would need. It is also manufactured by Callaway, so you are getting clubs made by one of the best golf brands in the world. It’s just a shame they don’t advertise it on the set!

Of course, post purchase you can enhance your set with additional clubs. As you improve your game, be sure to try other putters, wedges and drivers in your local store and compare their performance to the clubs that are in your golf bag.

Our second favorite set is the Callaway Women’s Solaire Complete Golf Set. This is more expensive but worthwhile if you can justify the extra expense. The technology in the back of these clubs will make striking the ball feel nicer and certainly offer added forgiveness to that of the STRATA set.

We hope this information gives you a good overall picture of available options and will help you make an informed decision.
